Puppies under 16 weeks deprived of environmental exposure e.g., early socialization often develop lifelong deficits and dysfunctional behaviors. A puppy isolated early in life from other dogs and humans may fail to establish satisfying social contact with other dogs or have trust in humans. Under socialized dogs can end up fearful, shy, or aggressive in adulthood.
As a rule of thumb, your puppy needs to meet at least a
hundred people before he is three months old.
The developmental period extending roughly from 3-12 weeks of age is the most influential 9 weeks of a puppy’s life. The socialization window closes by roughly 16 weeks.
